Greg Herring's Bio

Mr. Herring has over 20 years of financial and operational management experience with both start-ups and established companies. Throughout his career, Mr. Herring has brought a pragmatic focus on designing and improving business models and operating processes, increasing cash flow and reducing financial and operational risk in order to build shareholder value.

With established companies, Mr. Herring has raised capital, performed M&A transactions, restructured troubled operations, improved profitability, addressed SEC and other public company issues, managed litigation, and led management teams through substantial organizational change.

Mr. Herring has broad experience in developing start-up companies, including valuing companies, sizing markets, designing profitable business models, pricing products and services, drafting business plans, reducing financial and operational risks, identifying potential alliance partners, and turning plans into real operations.

Mr. Herring began his career at Price Waterhouse in 1984, serving clients ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. He managed audits and special engagements for manufacturing companies, healthcare and life science companies, software companies, financial institutions, troubled companies, real estate developers, and advertising agencies.

From 1991 to 1999, Mr. Herring served in various executive management capacities, including Chief Financial Officer, at The Brown Schools and its predecessor public companies.  The Brown Schools offered a broad spectrum of healthcare and educational services.  Mr. Herring led the management team in restructuring the capital structure, cutting costs, repositioning the service offering and divesting non-core operations.  This process culminated in a management led buyout of the company.  The company grew through acquisitions and internal development to revenues of $185 million with operations in ten states and Puerto Rico.  During his tenure at The Brown Schools, the company raised nearly $250 million in debt and equity, acquired five companies with revenue of $125 million, and divested 12 assets.

In 2000 and 2001, Mr. Herring served as Chief Financial Officer of Locale Systems Corp, a provider of an integrated information technology solution to businesses with 10 to 200 PCs. Mr. Herring arrived at the company as operations began. He moved quickly to develop and implement a profitable business model, a continuous process improvement program for business operations, and a reporting system for key business indicators.

Mr. Herring formed the Herring Group in 2001 in Austin, Texas and has been building value for his clients ever since. Mr. Herring has served both public and private companies in both project and management roles.
